What an electric scooter actually costs to run
- running cost
- savings
- electricity
- petrol
The sticker price is the part everyone compares. The part that decides whether the switch was worth it is what happens every month afterwards.
The arithmetic
A GOEEN scooter uses roughly 25 Wh per kilometre. At about ₹6 a unit of electricity, that is around 15 paise a kilometre. A petrol scooter doing 45 km to a litre, with petrol near ₹100, is closer to ₹2.20 a kilometre. Those are the figures our own savings calculator uses, and you can change every one of them to match where you live.
Then there is what you do not spend
No engine oil to change. No clutch plates, no carburettor to tune, no spark plug. An electric motor has far fewer parts that wear, which is why service visits are shorter and cheaper — and why a GOEEN sounds like nothing much when it goes past.
The honest caveat
Range and consumption move with load, terrain, speed and how hard you use the throttle. Two riders on the same scooter will not get the same number. Treat any figure — ours included — as a starting point and work from your own riding.
Work it out before you buy
The savings calculator on our home page takes your daily distance, your local petrol price and how long you plan to keep the scooter. It is worth two minutes before you spend anything.
Key takeaways
- Electricity replaces petrol; the rest of the bill barely changes.
- No engine oil, no clutch, no carburettor — less to service.
- The gap compounds: it is a monthly saving, not a one-off.
- Run the numbers with your own petrol price before you buy.
